American Red Fox
As we were leaving the park after a day-long tour, this fox was spotted and ran alongside us for several hundred yards. At one point, he stopped, stood on a large rock to check us out.
Hunts Mesa sunrise, Navajo reservation, Arizona
Late Nite Lava
Taken on the big island of Hawaii. An amazing scene after traipsing across a huge area of old lava deposits. New lava flows largely underneath the old (at least at the time we were there), and emerges onto a black sand beach.
Moran Point Sunset, Grand Canyon, Arizona
Sunrise, El Chaltén
While Fitzroy was glowing with the sunrise, this was the view in the opposite direction just before the sun came up.
Los Cuernos, close up, sunset
While sunset was not as dramatic as sunrise in the park, there were intermittent bolts of light that would break through the clouds onto the peaks.

Aurora experience
Our first night we had an amazing aurora borealis display. As it turns out, it would be the only one we had, so we were pretty lucky to have a really strong one. It lasted about 40 minutes, came out of the north and danced totally overhead and disappeared into the west.
Glacier Lagoon beach
More wave painting around the ice.
The Last Flash
This is the last shot taken via my lightning trigger just before I grabbed my gear and hauled tail up the hill. Several minutes later my car suffered a near lightning hit, frying the electronics and blowing out a tire. Fortunately it was a rental car.
West End Strike
Some beautiful clouds over the western end of the north rim, with an isolated thundershower at sunset.
Yaki Point Sunset
Interesting view of highlighted monuments looking east from Yaki Point.
Wotan's Throne Sunrise
An extraordinary morning on Point Royal on the Grand Canyon north rim. An early morning thunderstorm provided a beautiful light show for us.
Sunrise Thunderstorm
Our tour group awoke to an early AM thunderstorm passing over a remote un-named viewpoint overlooking the confluence of the Colorado and the Little Colorado rivers. The Colorado is dark green and the Little Colorado is reddish tan muddy colored. The rivers are flowing towards the lightning strike which is happening over the Grand Canyon south rim.
Mohave Double Strike
This amazing morning at Mohave Point, a thunderstorm moved from west to east through the canyon at sunrise. While these two lightning bolts were actually just a few seconds apart, they look better together in the same image. These mornings are what you live for in monsoon season.
