Tierra del Fuego National Park
A National Park in Argentina, just minutes outside Ushuaia, the southernmost city in Argentina. This is what the mountains look like in summer. This port is where the journey begins.

The predominant theme of Antarctica is the land covered with snow and ice.
Penguins, Petersman Island
A gentoo penguin colony. The red and green colors are algae, lichens and penguin droppings.

I imagined this penguin mother is scolding the other bird for putting the chick in the wrong nest.
Iceberg 8
The icebergs were for me the main attraction. Some were gigantic, some small. The blue color is natural and present to some extent in almost all the icebergs.

I'm sure this berg was several stories high.

Some of the bays around the islands were filled with huge icebergs. We did several Zodiac cruises into the iceberg fields. Here you can judge the size relative to the folks in the Zodiac.
One down, two up
Gentoo penguins are the most common species in this part of Antarctica. Here they are, flyin through the water.
Ice sculpture
This unique piece of ice was about two feet tall. Repeated episodes of turning over in the water produces the cobblestone appearance.

Iceberg 9
The ice under the water would have this intense blue-green color.
Iceberg 5
The iceberg is much larger under water than the part exposed. As the lower part melts away, the top eventually becomes heavier than the bottom, and it flips over.
Angry Fur Seal
This seal species blends closely into the rocky shoreline. It looks this guy is giving an angry look at something. Note the large front flippers that allow him to sit in such a vertical posture.
Snowscape 1
As parts of the thick snow and ice gives way, the minerals and debris begin to color the exposed face of the cavity.

Another exposed cavity in the snow shelf along the shore. Soil and debris creating beautiful patterns along the surface.

The explorers
John and Glo dressed in the traditional Antarctica tourist garb. The tours give you these bright colored coats so they can see you if you wander off.
