Wotans Throne Sunrise (A)

An amazing light show on Cape Royal on the north rim. There are three images I've edited from that morning, and I would appreciate anyone viewing these to let me know which one I should keep in the Gallery. While the morning was a great visual presentation, I found the files difficult to edit and really capture the experience.

An extraordinary morning on Point Royal on the Grand Canyon north rim. An early morning thunderstorm provided a beautiful light show for us.

A wider view of the canyon that morning, taken as the color was starting to fade, and just a small tip of a rainbow appears on the right side. Compare to the previous two images.

Sunrise Thunderstorm

Our tour group awoke to an early AM thunderstorm passing over a remote un-named viewpoint overlooking the confluence of the Colorado and the Little Colorado rivers. The Colorado is dark green and the Little Colorado is reddish tan muddy colored. The rivers are flowing towards the lightning strike which is happening over the Grand Canyon south rim.

As the early AM thunderstorm in the previous image passed, the sunrise produced these deep pink cloud reflections and a double rainbow. It doesn't get much better than this.

White Pocket late day

We spent a sunset evening, and a next day sunrise in the White Pocket area. This amazing area is in the Vermillion Cliffs area of northern Arizona, and was a bit of a difficult drive to get there. The swirled sandstone formations provide some fascinating vistas and continue to reveal different compositions as you hike through the area.

White Pocket sunrise

This very early sunrise at White Pocket was captured in very dim light. It wasn't until I edited the image at home that I noticed the random person standing on the distant rock.

White Pocket Mid Morning view

I found this unusual formation on the edge of White Pocket, where it begins to meld into the standard Vermillion Cliffs area flora. Looks like a sitting duck from this angle.

Lone Pine

While much of the White Pocket area is the swirling red sandstone, a large portion is this dumpling-like rolling waves of white rock. On one end stands this lone pine, which usually ends up in almost everyone's images of the place.
