An aurora display over a lake, and looking directly at the moon.
Hamnøya, Norway
A classic view of this iconic village in the Lofoten Islands. Usually presented as a winter scene, but our visit was in the fall. These red cabins, originally built for fishermen, are now very popular tourist cabins as well.

A small beach community on the west side of the Lofoten Islands. This area is famous for these stark vertical peaks plunging directly down to the water.
Skagsanden Beach, Flakstad, Norway
This beach area, well known to cold water surfers, is home to some exquisite sand patterns. This pale green tide pool is in the rocky part of the beach.
Skagsanden Beach Sand Pattern
This amazing beach had an interesting mixture of white and black sands. As the waves went in and out, the water would redistribute the black sand into constantly changing patterns. Photographing the details was hypnotically fascinating.

Another natural sand painting on the beach.
A larger and more intricate pattern.

There white trunk birch trees were abundant in the wooded areas of Lofoten. They don't reach the size of the North American aspens, but are similar in appearance.
Autumn colors and clouds
We were fortunate to find a lot of leaf color during our week in Lofoten. The low hanging clouds were always present around the peaks.
Shoreline Autumn Color
The lichen covered rocks around the small lakes offered a multitude of colorful presentations.
Autumn and the Pond
Another colorful pond shoreline set against the dark cloud-covered cliffs in the background.
Mt Stetind
