Bison pair
Encountered these two on an early morning drive into Yellowstone. They came walking down the road and didn't so much as blink as they passed by.
Grizzlies
These two were part of a large group of bears in a rescue facility in West Yellowstone. The facility was created to house predators that had become so accustomed to foraging in human inhabited spaces that the only option left for them was elimination by the US Forest Service. They're well fed all year long, so they do not hibernate.
Grey Wolf
Large male wolf in the Grizzly Wolf Center in West Yellowstone.
Grey Wolf female
Smaller female wolf in the Grizzly Wolf Center. These wolves were among the group that has been re-populated into Yellowstone Park. Those in the Center have refused to remain in the wild and kept returning to inhabited areas to forage despited repeated attempts to re-locate them. Living in captivity is the alternative to euthanasia by the Forest Service.
American Red Fox
As we were leaving the park after a day-long tour, this fox was spotted and ran alongside us for several hundred yards. At one point, he stopped, stood on a large rock to check us out.
Young human female
While not in her natural habitat, modern technology has allowed her to roam in previously inaccessible locations. The journey was short-lived however, as nothing was on sale.
Patriarch of the pack
The pack senior member demonstrating the essential movement skills needed to secure a midday meal out in the wild.
